The fourth Movie Nights Across Canada event took place in Iqaluit, Nunavut, and celebrated Inuit talent in the Canadian film and television industry. Organized in conjunction with the Nunavut Film Development Corporation and the Alianait Arts Festival, the event was hosted by Commissioner Nellie T. Kusugak, Premier Peter Taptuna, and Deputy Premier Monica Ell-Kanayuk. The screening of Maliglutit (Searchers) was followed by a preview from Kiviuq Returns, a multidisciplinary performance by the Qaggiq Performing Arts Collective.
Talent ambassadors Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Vinnie Karetak showcased the territory’s brightest talent. The film Maliglutit (Searchers), inspired by John Ford’s 1956 movie The Searchers, tells the story of an Inuit woman and her daughter who are kidnapped by three Inuit men while her husband and son are away. The husband sets out on a journey to find his family and punish the perpetrators.
